This week O2 have been very busy learning all about celebrations as part of our new topic ‘Let’s Celebrate!’ We began the week by thinking about all of the different types of celebrations we had taken part in over our lives, such as birthdays, weddings, religious festivals and school celebrations. We discussed those celebrations that happened every year and plotted them onto our own ‘celebrations calendar’ showing the months each celebration takes place in. We also enjoyed thinking about the special celebrations that only happened rarely, such as 40th birthdays, weddings and special anniversaries and drew our own timelines to show these in time order. We really enjoyed sharing these occasions with our friends and remembering the fun we had!
In literacy this week, we began a new topic focusing on the story ‘The Lonely Beast’ by Chris Judge. Before we read the story, we used the pictures and front cover to predict what might happen and how the beast might behave. Next, we worked in small groups to think of actions for different parts of the story before performing the whole story in order to the class. These actions were then used to draw our own story maps that allowed us to tell the story to our friends from memory. Finally, we described the character of the beast and wrote about how he might feel to create a special ‘Beast Diary’.
Our maths learning this week focused on statistics. Over the week, we looked at a variety of different ways to display information, including pictograms, bar charts and tally charts. We then completed our own research into a subject of our choice and used the data we collected to create our own bar charts. By the end of the week, we were experts in explaining the information found on different charts and tables!
Finally, on Thursday, we had a special visitor who came to visit our class. Mrs Ward (Ellie’s Mum) came to show their family rabbit Sweep! We asked lots of questions to find out about how to look after a rabbit and really enjoyed stroking and giving treats to him. What a lovely end to the week!
Well done O2 on a very exciting week!
