Last week we had Book Week at school. We read many stories by the author Julia Donaldson, including Monkey Puzzle, The Highway Rat and Superworm. On Thursday we all dressed up as our favourite book character. We took part in our first character parade in the hall for World Book Day. We enjoyed looking at the many costumes on show that day.
This week in Hedgehog Class we began by talking about what we did during our snow day. Many of the children drew pictures and wrote sentences about what they had done.
We then introduced the story Whatever Next, a story about a bear that built a rocket and went on a trip to the moon. We talked about what we would bring with us if we went to the moon. We wrote lists of the items we would bring. We made our own rockets, using junk modelling materials.
Later in the week the children became really interested in aliens. They made a trap to catch an alien. We read the story Aliens Love Underpants, then we made own our pants for the aliens.
In maths this week we were learning about addition, and using a number line to count on. Children are learning to count on from one number instead of counting all of the objects. In phonics we learned the ‘oo’ sound, which can be found in the words book, look and foot. We also recapped the other new sounds we have learned and practised using these in our writing.
Next week we will have Science Week at school. We have lots of interesting science activities planned for the week.
Well done on a great week of learning Hedgehog Class.
