We began our week in Hedgehog Class by discussing our recent visit to the fire station. We looked through the pictures we had taken, and talked about what we had seen and learned. We decided to make a card to thank the firefighters for the fantastic morning we had there.
We continued with the firefighter theme this week, painting the fire engines we had made from junk modelling materials. We made hoses using junk modelling materials, and a giant fire engine using cardboard boxes outside.
In phonics this week we learned the sounds u, b, f and e. We also learned the tricky words 'I', 'the' and 'to'.These are called tricky words because we cannot sound them out; so we need to learn what they say. Today the children were given tricky word tags containing these words. Please practice these tricky words with your child, and more will be added each week.
In maths this week we began to look at addition calculations. We used Numicon to find different ways to make 10, then we recorded what we had done using addition calculations. Wechallenged ourselves to write many addition calculations.
On Thursday we visited our school library. We all chose a library book that we took home with us. Every Thursday we will visit the library to return our book and choose a new one. Please ensure the library book is in your child's bookbag on this day.
We celebrated Children in Need Day on Friday, with many of the children dressing up in spotty clothes. We talked about the importance of raising money on Children in Need Day. We decorated biscuits and sold them at the end of the day. We would like to thank you all for your very generous donations today.
