We have been looking at the Indigenous people of Australia in our learning this week. We used one of their Dream Time stories in our English lesson. We read the story of ‘Why Koala has a Stumpy Tail’ and then sequenced pictures from the story. We re-told the story over the rest of the week and then today we wrote the stories independently in our English books.
We learnt some interesting facts about aboriginal life and compared it to our lives, looking at their houses, their clothes and how they get their food.
In Art we used the technique of dot painting to inspire our art work. We painted and decorated our own ‘digeridoos’ (cardboard tubes) and made fantastic pieces of dot painting art both with paper and paint and on the iPads too.
Our Maths learning this week has been looking at equality and balance – if you have 10+5 in one side of the scales, what could you put in the other side to make it balance? We used numicon and weighing scales to support our learning and then turned them in to number sentences. This tested our knowledge of place value, so we had a quick recap of that too.
Next week’s learning…
-facts about Australian animals
-classifying and grouping animals in Science
-reading ‘Edward the Emu’ in English
-finding the missing part or whole in a number problem
