Week 8 31.10.16

O2 have had a very exciting first week back after the half term!

In maths this week, we have been learning about and comparing different units of measurement. We started the week by using millilitres and litres to estimate and measure the capacity of a variety of objects. We each chose a  container and then went outside to measure the amount of water each one held. In our groups, we then compared which containers held the most liquid and which would hold the least. Next, we measured the mass of different objects using measuring scales, balancing scales and pulleys and then ordered the weights using ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’ symbols. We finished the week by comparing the units of measurement; length, mass and capacity, and solving problems by choosing the correct unit.

Our literacy this week has focused on explanation texts. After reminding ourselves of their features, we spent the rest of the week planning and writing a text explaining the process involved in playing a computer game. Over the last few weeks in Computing we have been learning about different games, and so used this knowledge to create our own word bank that we could use to help our writing. We then played the game again and made notes on the processes involved, to allow us to finally plan and write our own explanation of how to play the game.

Also this week, O2 started our new topic of ’Let’s Celebrate!’ We really enjoyed having our own special Diwali celebration, where we decorated Mendhi patterns, designed and created our own Rangoli patterns and even made our own Diwali masks! We also enjoyed tasting a variety of foods that are eaten during Diwali celebrations and agreed that they all were very delicious! We then shared our own knowledge of  celebrations, including our experiences of birthdays, weddings,Eid, Christmas and even our class celebration at school.

O2 have had an AMAZING first week back: well done and keep it up!
