We had quite a busy week at school this week. We took a trip to Oxhey Park on Tuesday. Each group had a list of objects they needed to find while we were there. We enjoyed investigating the signs of autumn in the park and picking up leaves, twigs and various other natural objects while we were there.
When we came back to school we shared what we had found with our friends. We talked about what we saw and heard at the park, and what we enjoyed most about the trip. We used the materials we had collected to make a collage, which is now on display in the classroom.
We did lots of preparation for our Harvest Assembly this week. Many families kindly donated boxes of food for The Red Trust charity. It was our first whole school assembly and we were glad to see so many family members coming to see us. Miss Tarrant and Mrs. Dunne are very proud of all of the children for their fantastic performances on Thursday!
In phonics this week we learned the sounds p, g and o. These are now attached to your child’s sound tag. We are also sending home some CVC words for your child to practise reading over half term.
On Thursday 15th November we will be running an ‘At Home’ session that will focus on phonics. Parents are invited to stay at school for the first part of our school morning and watch as we teach a phonics session. There will also be some phonics activities to work on with your child after the session, if you wish to stay and have a look at those.
We have now come to the end of our first half term in Reception. The children are settling in so well and we have really enjoyed getting to know each other over the last 8 weeks.
Well done on a fantastic half term Toucans! We hope that you all have a restful half term. We are looking forward to seeing you all on Monday 5th November to hear about all of the wonderful things you will have gotten up to over half term.
