This week we have been focusing on the story The Gruffalo. The children loved being visited by the Gruffalo himself and it has inspired lots of learning within the classroom. The children have enjoyed using the Gruffalo to retell the story to their friends - using great story language from the story. The children have also been involved with lots of writing, coming up with different types of favourite foods of the Gruffalo or the animals - Gruffalo Cake, Parrot Ice-Cream (better hide Squawky) and Chocolate Giraffe. All this writing soon inspired the children to write their own stories. They have enjoyed creating their own zig-zag books and illustrating them, they have then been telling an adult their story to help them write it down. Some children have then shared them with their friends.
In Phonics we have learnt three more sounds 'd', 'i' and 'n' and have been practising reading them within words. They have enjoyed writing them in their books and some children have even started to write on lined paper - WOW!
In Maths, we have been looking at weight and thinking of things that are ‘heavy/heavier’, ‘light/lighter’ and using the words ‘balanced’ or ‘the same’ too. The children love using real vegetables to weigh.
Thursday was an exciting day with furry friends joining the class. The teddies really enjoyed their day at school and the children were keen to share them with their friends. The movie was very popular and the children had a lovely time. We would like to thank the BFF and the parent helpers for running the event for our children.
Next week we will be visiting the park on Tuesday, fingers crossed for a sunnier weekend and on Thursday we have our Harvest festival assembly. We hope to see some of you there, please see the newsletter for more information.
As we are nearing the end of the first half term, please can I ask that if you would like to speak with me about your child, can you come to the class door before the school day starts or wait behind after school? This is to ensure that all children are greeted in the morning and are safely sent home with the correct adult in the afternoon. I am available in the mornings without an appointment (except Mondays which has to be pre-arranged due to a staff meeting) and after school and am always happy to speak to parents about their child or any concerns you have. This is the best way to speak to any class adult and for any conversations (no matter how small!) to be beneficial to you, your child and the school.
Over the Weekend
Have a lovely weekend
