Week 6 - 22.05.17

Well done to all the children in B2 for showing excellent resilience this week in demonstrating their mathematical thinking skills to answer arithmetic and reasoning paper! They worked really hard and we are all very proud of them.

In English this week, we finished the story of Zeraffa Giraffa who finally made it to Paris after her long and tiring journey from Egypt through the vineyards of the Rhone valley to arrive on the Champs Elysees. We sequenced events in the story and created a story map with drawings to depict each part of Zeraffa's journey. On Thursday, we rewrote the story thinking carefully about how to check our writing to ensure it made sense and to edit for improvements. We had watched a video earlier in the week about the value of taking on feedback to make improvements and, in the same way Austin improved his butterfly, the children in B2 re-read their work to improve their writing.

We also enjoyed an amazing drumming workshop this week led by the ex-drummer of the band Status Quo Jeff Rich. The children got the opportunity to try their hand at a range of percussion instruments and find out about the history of drums. It was fantastic to see all the children involved in a whole-school performance where they rocked out with great enthusiasm!

B2 enjoyed a special house competition sports afternoon. They supported each other in house teams to compete and it was great to see children demonstrating good sportsmanship throughout. Though Water House got to wear their own clothes to celebrate earning the most achievement points this half term, I was told the sports competition was a much closer call with all houses trying their absolute best!

This afternoon, we enjoyed our class celebration. Children had chosen to dress in their own clothes and bring their toys. There was a very wide range of activities being enjoyed in the classroom, from riding scooters and playing countries top trumps, to playing board games and making paper aeroplanes. It was a lovely way to celebrate all of our hard work so well done to B2!

I hope you all have a great half term and enjoy a well-deserved rest!
