Week 5: 9th Oct 2017

An exciting week in Badger class,

This week the children have been preparing for the Harvest Assembly on Wednesday 18th October. They have been practising their own class song as well as the choruses of the whole school songs. They were fantastic in the whole song practice and are looking forward to performing next week. We have also been using the book ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ to inspire our Harvest display. We have been sharing our favourite vegetables within circle times.

On Thursday Badgers had their first competition afternoon. The children wore their house t-shirts and competed within their house groups. During the warm up the children had to listen carefully to instructions during the first jumping game. They then took part in relay races. There were three variations and the children were particularly good at balancing bean bags on their heads. Well done to all the children during this afternoon.

The children have been continuing their Phonic sessions, learning the sounds ‘s’ and ‘d’. They have also been practising writing the sounds ‘m’, ‘a’ and ‘s’ in their new Phonic books. They have found remembering to start ‘m’ from the top very tricky however they have been challenging themselves to write the sounds using whiteboards and chalks. We are very proud of their perseverance!

On Friday a strange object appeared in the classroom. The children enjoyed exploring the object and asked lots of questions. Mrs Sherwood introduced the word 'investigation' and the focus was on looking at the object, feeling the object and asking questions. The children had a go at answering questions such as 'where did it come from?' and 'what does it feel like?' The children will have more opportunities to investigate this object next week.
