We began our week by learning about Chinese New Year. The children tasted Chinese food for lunch, and in class we looked at a story about Chinese New Year. We were very lucky to have our own Chinese expert in the class. He taught us how to write number 1-10 in Chinese, and also how to write some words in Chinese. The children were very interested in writing these words, and the writing area was very busy on Monday!
In literacy this week we read the story ‘Aliens in Underpants Save the World’. We sequenced the story, and looked at rhyming words in the book. In phonics we learned the following sounds: ar (start the car),or (shut the door) and air(that’s not fair). We sorted objects according to the sounds the sounds we could hear in them, and we wrote some words containing these digraphs. We also learned the tricky words ‘come’ and ‘some’.
We have been learning about weight in our maths sessions this week. We have been weighing meteorites, deciding whether they are heavy or light. We have also been investigating how to make the scales balanced. During the maths activities children have also been playing board games, building obstacles courses, and making clay aliens.
On Wednesday afternoon we became scientists, investigating water and ice. We discussed where would be the best to put the ice so that it would melt quickly. We also particpated in other water and ice related activities, including exploring bubbles and moving ice.
Great work this week OR class.
