What we have been learning this week
This week we have been continuing our discussions about families. We have been talking about different family members and how families are different. The children have been very confident to talk about their family and their ‘Family Trees’ are looking wonderful.
The children have started each morning with ‘Physi-Gym’. This is a fun dance session each morning to help the children get ready for learning. The movements which the children have been learning are supporting their physical development which will support their writing. The children have loved their ‘Physi-Gym’ sessions and even though they have found some of the movements tricky they are having a go!
We have started to introduce sounds into the children’s daily phonics sessions. Each week the children will learn and practise their sounds alongside some auditory sound discrimination games. This week we have learnt ‘m’ and ‘a’ and practised writing them. It is really important that the children are learning the ‘pure sounds’ as this will support them in blending. Below is a video of all the ‘pure sounds’.
During Circle Time we have been reading and talking about the story ‘Have you filled a Bucket Today?’ We have discussed different ways we can be kind to one another and be a ‘bucket filler’. The children have enjoyed the concept of their happiness bucket and are talking about whether their ‘bucket’ is full or empty.
Well done Badgers on a fantastic week!
We are aware that some children’s jumpers have gone missing this week. Please can you check at home that you have the correct jumpers and return any that may have been mistakenly brought home. Please can you also check after every wash that any name stickers or written name is still clearly visible as we currently have a few unnamed jumpers which have residue from name stickers on them. Thank you.
Reading Books and Sound Books
This week, your child has brought home their first reading book and reading record. Please share this story with your child at least twice. After reading the story, please sign the reading record, and make a comment about your child’s reading if you wish. Please ensure the book is kept in your child’s book bag every day, to allow for extra reads during the week. On Monday and Thursday of each week, we will be changing the reading books, so please place the signed reading record book and the reading book into the box provided. Books will only be changed if reading records are signed, and books are placed in the box. Please encourage your child to place these into the box. Thank you.
We have also given your child a sound book, which contains the new sounds we have learned each week. On Thursday we will collect these books and add the new sounds. Again, a box will be provided for these books. Please practise saying these sounds with your child daily, and the letter formation rhymes, which can be found below.
