B2 have all worked incredibly hard this week. We have been planning our own stories in Literacy which are based heavily on the setting from Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters. The children have developed their own characters that would suit an African forest. They have considered the character’s personality; their likes and dislikes. They mapped their story ideas onto a story plan and on Thursday finally began to write the opening to their story. We were very impressed with their story language and vocabulary. Everyone included super adjectives and grammar such as inverted commas, exclamation marks and most children remembered to use consistent full stops and capital letters!
In maths we have been using our skills from week one. We have been partitioning two digit numbers and using this to help us add and subtract a single digit from a two digit number and tens from a two digit number. The children were very good at using mental strategies to find the answer but we were keen for them to explain their understanding/working. We finished the week with some problem solving questions aimed at adding and subtracting from two digit numbers.
I was very impressed with some of the children’s gymnastic skills this week in PE. We made a floor sequence of three separate positions that involved making different body parts our highest point such as one hand, one foot and an elbow. We held each position for a count of three before moving onto the next. The children then transferred some of these sequences onto the apparatus.
In topic we have been learning about different Rio De Janeiro landmarks. The children have learnt about the terms ‘human and physical features’ and applied this to the landmarks of Rio. Examples have included: the Statue of Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf mountain, The Dois Imaoes (two brothers) mountains, Rochina Favela, Copacabana Beach and Barra da Tijuca beach.
B2 are now beginning to get ready for our class assembly on Friday 14th October. Everyone has a job to do. Keep a look out in your child’s book bag for any words that they may need to learn.
