In Meerkats class this week we have been focusing on Australian animals. We looked at different facts about each animal and choose our favourite facts to write about. We learnt about lots of new animals that we hadn’t heard of before as well as some interesting facts about animals we already knew of.
In Science we then went on to look at classification of animals. We learnt about 5 different types of animals; mammals, reptiles, birds, fish and amphibians. We learnt about different types of animals skin, where they live, how they have their babies, what they eat and whether they were warm or cold blooded. The Meerkats then went on to write facts about each type of animal they had learnt about. Later on in the wee k the Meerkats grouped the animals by the animals different features e.g. where they lived, how they were born and what their body like. The Meerkats found this very interesting and were full of lots of their own knowledge.
In English we have been focusing on a story called ‘Edward the Emu’. We have been looking at using adjectives in our writing to make it more interesting. This week we wrote about Edward the Emu and the interesting animals he could meet at the zoo as well as all the fun activities he could get up to while he was there. The Meerkats were very good at coming up with some adjectives to describe animals in the zoo.
In Maths this week we have been looking at addition and subtraction together. The Meerkats have been working on identifying whether or not a part or whole is missing from their number problem. We have been looking at whether or not we need to add or subtract to get our final answer. We found out that if we are looking for the missing whole number we must ADD the two parts and if we are looking for a missing part, we must SUBTRACT the first part from the whole number.
In Art this week we have been finishing off our Aboriginal art work. We have also been looking at SPRING and have designed and drawn our own blossom tress for the display during SPRING ASSEMBLY.
