This week our focus has been the story of Billy's Bucket. We started off the week by reading half of the story and then we wrote our own predictions about what was going to happen next. The Meerkats were told to base their prediction on information they already knew about the story. Then we created a class story map and re told the story in our own words. The Meerkats were told to focus on using adjectives in their writing to bring the story alive, as well as question marks and exclamation points when appropriate.
In Maths this week we have begun looking at multiplication ( repeated addition). We started by exploring which numbers we can share equally (even numbers) and the numbers which we can't (odd numbers). We then went on to look at what happens when we try and share a odd number into 2 equal groups. The Meerkats discovered that an odd number will always have 1 remainder. Some of the Meerkats went on to explore what happens when we share a number between 5 and 10 groups. By the end of the week we were looking at how we can represent sharing even numbers into 2 equal groups into a number sentence.
In Science this week we have been exploring body parts. The Meerkats looked at our outer body parts and labelled themselves and a diagram. We also looked at how many body parts we have.
In Art we created our own drawings of Billly's Bucket. The children used chalk and oil pastels to design their own version of what Billy found in his bucket.
