At the beginning of the week one of the children brought in a picture of a nest that is in his Grandma’s garden. We learned that it is a robin’s nest, and we looked at how robins make their nests. We also learned some facts about robins, and that a robin’s eggs are a shade of blue. The next day, many of the children talked about nests they had seen on their journeys to and from school. We went for a walk around the school grounds to see if we could find any more nests, and we found two nests.
The children were quite interested to learn facts about birds. We looked on the computer and in fact books to find out about them. Many of the children wrote down the facts they had learned.
We also decided to make our own nests. We found various twigs, leaves and grass outside and then used them to make the nests. We challenged ourselves to make the nests without using glue or sellotape. We found this a little tricky.
In maths this week we have been learning about doubling. We used Numicon to work out various doubles up to double 10. We also looked at halving, and how these two concepts are related.
We have been focusing on ICT this week. The children have been using Purple Mash to complete various games and activities. Next week we will be working with Beebots.
Have a lovely bank holiday weekend Hedgehogs.
