In Maths this week we have been looking at time. We started by learning about the features of the clock e.g. face, long hand (minutes), short hand (hour). Then we moved on to looking at clockwise and anticlockwise direction and the normal direction the hands move in. We then went on to telling the time and we started with o'clock. Afterwards we went on to telling the time and looking at half past. Lastly we went on to look at intervals of time, the Meerkats were looking at being able to work out what the time would have been an hour earlier or later and what the time would have been half an hour earlier or later. We did lots of practice practically using clocks as well as activities at our tables.
In English this week our focus story has been The Snail and The Whale by Julia Donaldson. We started by reading the story several times before acting the story out in groups. Next the Meerkats created their own story maps to help remind them of the story. Then the Meerkats wrote about what their favourite part of the story was. We focused on using works like and, but and because to extend our sentences and help justify our reasons for it being our favourite part.
In Art this week, we worked in groups to plan and design a setting from the story of the snail and the whale. The Meerkats choose their favourite setting and designed it using a wide variety of materials as well as making it 3D.
In Science, we have continued to fill in our bean diaries and make sure that we are giving our beans the right nutrients to help them grow. We were also very lucky to have a Marine Biologist come and visit us earlier in the week. She shared with us what her job entails and brought in some animals in for us to look at and even TOUCH!!!!!!!!
We have also been very lucky to have an extra PE lesson this week with Mrs Charles. In these lessons we practised our sports day skills ready for next week.
