This week in O1 has been very busy as we continue our learning. The children have continued with their in depth look at the 'Man on the Moon' and have started to design their own aliens and describing what they look like. The children have been encouraged to use adjectives and conjunctions in their work and they are developing their understanding of a good sentence structure. They are beginning to read their own work back and this is enabling them to make sure it reads properly.
In maths the children have been working with money, a subject that can be tricky for year 1. They began by identifying a range of coins before beginning to work out the total price and money amounts. The children did very well and showed that they are learning the concept of money and this is a subject we will be continuing next week.
The children are also producing some good independent work during our guided reading sessions with some fabulous writing. They have enjoyed describing pictures and starting to think of their own stories in that time.
Finally, the children were little explorers during our topic morning as they learnt about important people from the past, Edmund Hillary. They spent time finding out what he did and how tough it could have been. We went on our own journey before putting pen to paper and writing about his exploits. The children did very well and were also fascinated to learn more about mountains and what an achievement it was.
