We have been very active in our first full week back at school and the children have settled back in well. We would like to welcome our new music Mrs Caperon, who took O1 for her first lesson on Monday. The children loved meeting her and enjoyed the experiences of learning so new songs and how to sing them. This was saw us have our first PE session of the term and the children are looking forward to learning new multi sport skills over the coming weeks.
In year 1 we have started to a new power of reading book, 'Man on the Moon' by Simon Bartram. Over the next few weeks the classes will be taking part in a range of actives related to the book and this week the children started by asking Bob (the man on the moon) a selection of questions. We looked at constructing the sentences correctly and using a range starters such as 'who, what, where and when'. This was followed up by placing a question mark at the end. The following session we were able to answer most of the questions and the children then wrote about their favourite part of the story and why. This work can soon be seen on our new in class wall display.
In our maths lessons the children have been completing a selection of assessment tasks that have included looking at numbers, digits an problem solving. We also came up with a guess the number game that the children enjoyed completing and then inventing themselves.
Finally, the children had a day of fun science on Friday. In the session we were looking at materials and predicting which ones would work best on an umbrella. The children wrote about the fabrics and what they thought would happen and why. We then tested the materials to see if we were right. Well done Raashi who was brave enough to hold an umbrella with a hole in it. Well done too to the children of O1 who took part and completed their first full science experiment in school.
