Week 2: 29th April 2019

This week in Meerkats class we have been very busy learning lots of facts and information about our new topic THE SEASIDE!! We started by looking at the history of the seaside and how it is different from the seaside that we would go to today! We looked at how people in Victorian times would travel to the seaside, what clothes they would wear and the entertainment they would experience at the seaside and compared it to nowadays.  Then on Friday we were lucky enough to have our own Victorian seaside experience where we go to make souvenirs, create train tickets, postcards and sell and buy our work.  We were also able to have a go at some Victorian games that we might find at a funfair by the seaside! What a fabulous day we had.

In Phonics this week we have been looking at and recapping some of our alternative sounds for or (aw, au,oor, ore) and oo (ew, u-e, ue). We have been practicing reading, writing and spelling words with these alternative sounds.

In Geography this week we have been learning about Physical and Human features. We started by discussing how we can notice the difference between the two. Then we looked around our classroom and outside to see what physical and human features we could find. Finally we sorted pictures into two groups depending on how they were made.

Maths this week we have been focusing  on Money! We have looked at how much each coin represents and its value. We have ordered coins depending on their value from smallest to biggest and vice versa. After we went on to look at making amounts and how we can use our coins to make 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p and 75p. Then finally we looked at adding money together to work out which group of coins has the biggest value etc. We have been using the numicon to help us solve our money problems.

Well done Meerkats on another  fabulous week and I hope you all enjoy the long weekend.
