This week we continued with our theme of castles. We read various stories related to castles, and then used a Story S format to come up with our own stories. We thought about the characters, setting and main events in our stories. Some children are now beginning to write these stories.
We continued to add to our small world role play. We made crowns and flags in the creative area this week. We also painted pictures of castles.
In phonics we are continuing to revise the Set 1 sounds. This week we focused on reading and writing words containing the ‘special friends’. We also practised reading and writing some of our tricky words. We enjoyed singing a tricky word song together. You can find that song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvMyssfAUx0
In maths we continued to work on addition using 10 frames. This week we learned a new method of recording our maths, called the part whole model. The children recorded the number of red and yellow circles they had, then added them together to find the ‘whole’.
On Thursday we had a martial arts instructor come in to give us a lesson. We enjoyed learning the sequences that she taught us. We also learned the importance of never using these on the playground.
Please remember to send your child’s reading book to school in their book bag every day. We continue to read with the children on a daily basis, and it makes things easier if they can read to us the book that they are also practising at home.
Well done on another great week of learning Toucan Class. Next week our learning will be based around 'We're going on a bear hunt'.
