This week we started our maths learning we continued looking at 'twice as many' and completed a problem solving activity where we had to make a recipe with twice the amount of the ingredients. Then we continued to look at sharing into equal problems but with problem solving. The Meerkats were encouraged to prove their answers to the problem using pictures and concrete resources.
In Science, we started by looking at plants. We spoke about different parts of the plant and drew and labelled plants. Then we went on to discuss what plants need to grow and survive. The class wrote what they need and why they need it. The Meerkats then planted broad beans and wrote a set of instructions to explain how they planted the beans. The children then created their own bean diaries to record what happens to their beans over the next few weeks.
To continue our theme of pirates, the Meerkats wrote a postcard back to Captain Flinn. We asked Flinn how life of the ship was and discussed with him what we thought life would be like as a pirate on his ship. The Meerkats then designed their own postage stamp that they would use to send the postcard. The Meerkats all drew their own profile of their face which proved to be quite tricky but they all did a fantastic job!!!!
On Friday we designed and made cards for our Dad's to celebrate Father's Day on Sunday.
Well Done Meerkats on another fabulous week!!
