Our Space theme has really taken off this week! We have continued to develop our role play area. The children painted rockets and decorated them to add to the area. We have been travelling to the moon, and to lots of planets as well. We made helmets and space boots to wear on the rocket.
In Literacy we have been reading the story Whatever Next. We listed all of the things the bear took with him in his rocket, then we wrote our own lists of what we would bring with us to the moon. We also looked at sequencing the story using pictures from the book. We had our first music session with Mrs. Caperon this week. We retold the story, using both instruments and our voices as sound effects for the story.
For Maths this week we have continued to look at number recognition, and also matching numerals and quantities. Next week we will be learning about 3D shapes, so we would be grateful if you could bring in any recyclable materials to use for junk modelling, and for use in our maths lessons.
In phonics we have been revising Set 1 sounds, ready to begin Set 2 sounds next week. Therefore we have not given out the red sound books or tricky word tags this week. We will begin to give them out again next week.
We had 2 PE sessions this week. This term Coach Angelo will be doing ball skills with the children. Miss Tarrant will also be teaching a PE session on gymnastics every Friday afternoon.
We had a very exciting Friday morning, when it began to snow. We explored the snow in the outdoor area, then some children made their own snow pictures.
