This week has been a busy and exciting one for B2. We have been busy making preparations for our Christmas concert and also managed to squeeze in a visit to a pantomime! The children behaved impeccably at the pantomime. The walk there demonstrated the children’s road safety skills. They were sensible and had an awareness of their surroundings at all times. The pantomime was very funny and we had the best seats! Well done to Ella and Saul for gracing the stage with their presence!
In maths this week we made a start with division. The children used the words: sharing, grouping, divide/ division. We began by sharing objects physically between 2, 3, 5 and 10 groups. Some children were able to talk about the relationship between the multiplication and division and used their knowledge of the timetables to find their answers quickly. Towards the end of the week some of the children were recording their calculations using the ÷ symbol.
This week in Literacy the children have been learning about calligrams. We observed, compared and contrasted a number of calligrams. We made notes of their features. The children then had a go at making their own calligrams in the shape of a Christmas tree. We used our prior learning of: similes, metaphors, rhyme, rhythm and alliteration to make our calligrams appealing to the reader.
In Design and Technology this week we made our Christmas biscuits. From designing a celebration last week the children were asked which aspect of their plan they would like to focus on. We decided that as it was so close to Christmas we could look closely at the ‘food’ aspect of a celebration. So Christmas biscuits were unanimous! The children weighed and measured their ingredients using their knowledge from maths about grams/kilograms and millilitres/litres. On Wednesday we decorated the biscuits using Christmas inspired colours of gold, silver and red (with a few jelly sweets!).
Our class celebration is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon of next week. The children voted for a disco and are welcome to bring in their ‘dancing clothes’!
Enjoy the weekend B2
