Week 12 10.7.17

O2 have had a busy week getting ready for the new school year!

On Monday, we began the week with a visit from a musician who came to show us a selection of brass instruments. We had an assembly about the different instruments and then were given the opportunity to try some! We enjoyed trying to play each one and finding out about their different sounds.

This week we also have been continuing our history topic of ‘Communication through the Ages’. We began by looking at the telegraph and learning about how telegrams and Morse code were used to communicate with people who lived far away. We enjoyed writing our own messages in Morse Code for our friends to translate! We then moved on to looking at Alexander Graham Bell and his invention, the telephone. We made our own telephones using cups and string and thought about why it was such an important invention. Finally, we found out about the introduction of the World Wide Web and the Internet, and used internet search engines to find out more facts about communication.

In art this week, we continued to look at the work of Henri Rousseau. We thought about all the features of his paintings and then painted our own landscape-portraits of our favourite place. We used watercolours and sketching to show what we had found out about Henri Rousseau and his style of painting.

On Wednesday, we held our Year Two Leavers Assembly. After many hours practising our various lines and parts, we shared with our parents and friends our favourite experiences of Year Two and told them about  all of the wonderful learning that had taken place throughout the year.  We made our teachers and family very proud and danced, sang and spoke brilliantly! We then enjoyed receiving our certificates and gowns to celebrate the time we have had at Bushey and Oxhey Infant School.

On Thursday, we walked to Bushey Manor four our transition day. We spent the morning with our new teachers; asking questions and finding out about life at Bushey Manor. We then enjoyed coming back to school to share what we had found out with our teachers.

Finally, Friday saw a second visit to Bushey Manor this week to watch the Year 6 production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat’ They impressed us with their singing and dancing and we can’t wait to see more next year!

Well done O2 on a very exciting week!
