We have had two visitors in Reception this week. On Wednesday we had a visit from Mr. C, the Lollipop Man at Bushey Manor. He spoke to us about the job he has to do every day. We asked him lot of interesting questions about his job. Then Mr. C demonstrated how he helps people to cross the road, by helping Reception to cross our road in the outdoor area. When Mr. C had gone, the children began making their own stop signs. We had lots of children helping others to cross the road that day!
On Friday we had a visit from a police officer. We attended a whole school assembly, then had a chance to speak to him ourselves, when he visited our classroom. He talked about his job, and the children asked lots of great questions. We tried on some different examples of police hats, and saw the various things that police officers carry with them.
The children have been so fascinated with police officers that we have decided to turn our role play area into a police station. The children have helped to create it, and we’re looking forward to using it next week.
We introduced mini-me characters to our classroom this week. The children brought their characters all around the classroom, and used them in a variety of ways. Some mini me characters visited our hospital in the small world area. Grace’s mini me character flew a helicopter around the classroom, and other children made trains, which their mini-me characters drove.
This week in maths, we have again been working on number recognition. We have also been learning how to work out one less than a number, and sometimes more than one less. We have used objects to help us learn how to subtract. In phonics we have learned the sounds ‘v’ and ‘y’, and the tricky words ‘do’ and ‘some’. In literacy we have been learning how to ask questions, and how to write them. We have also been reading more non-fiction books about people who help us.
We have learned lots about people who help us, and we would like to say a special thank you to our two visitors. They were two great learning experiences.
