Firstly, thank you to all of the parents who stayed for our 'At Home' session on Monday morning. I hope it was helpful to see how phonics is taught at Bushey and Oxhey. If you have any further questions about this, please do not hesitate to ask.
This week in OR class we continued our transport topic. We read the book 'I wish I were a pilot', and discussed our favourite vehicle. We thought about what we could do, or where we could go in this vehicle, then wrote a sentence about it.
In maths we introduced subtraction. We talked about how this meant taking something away. We used objects to demonstrate this, and recorded our results. We also looked at how we could use a number line to work out the answer. Children have been recording their results using calculations ie 8-2=6.
In phonics we have now moved on to Set 3 sounds. This week we learned the sounds 'ea' and 'oi'. We discussed how there are different ways to write the same sound, and we practised reading and writing words containing these new sounds. We continue to consolidate our knowledge of tricky words, and so have not learned any new words this week.
The children have really been noticing daffodils in the environment. This week we decided to paint what we have seen. The children really concentrated to make their paintings look like the daffodils in front of them.
We celebrated Red Nose Day on Friday of this week. Everyone came in wearing something red, and we learned about the reason why we do Red Nose Day. In the afternoon we joined the whole school for a balloon challenge. We found it easier to pass it with our feet. You can see how this worked in our photos for this week.
We have also been busy practising for Spring Assembly next week. We hope to see many of you there on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
