Penguins class would like to say a huge thank you to those of you who managed to come and watch our class assembly. We worked so hard on it, learning our lines and how to speak loudly and we felt very proud of ourselves once we had done it. I know they were all so happy to see so many grown ups there watching us!
We have started looking at the split sounds in Phonics (a-e, i-e, o-e and u-e) with a focus on i-e this week in words such as like and smile. The children are becoming more confident in reading these words and have enjoyed spotting them around school and in the song words for a Christmas production.
We continued looking at Birthdays on Monday, making comparisons to our own birthday celebrations and those of other countries. We used the story of Handa's Surprise to inspire our Art lessons this week, still life drawing the different fruits, colouring them in with chalks and pastels and then did a watercolour wash of an African scene to stick our beautiful drawings on to. Today we spoke about the celebration of Thanksgiving and we wrote about what we are thankful for, using and' and 'because' to give the reader more information. The children came up with some lovely ideas, with lots of them mentioning their families and the thing they are most thankful for.
In Maths we have been looking at odd and even numbers and starting to look at doubling and halving. We have been investigating whether you can double and halve all numbers through practical activities.
Rehearsals for our Christmas production are in full swing. The stage is up and props are being made. We hope you all spotted the costume letter in your child's bag. Please start sending them in as soon as you have them. And don't forget to speak to me if you have any problems with what you need. We can help out as long as we have enough notice! Costumes must be in by FRIDAY 30th NOVEMBER at the latest. Thank your support in this.
