O2 have had an exciting week of learning!
On Monday we began preparing for our transition to Year Three at Bushey Manor by visiting the school. We were given tours of the school by Miss Mackenzie who showed us where our new classrooms would be, where we would have our lunch and the hall and playground. We also got the opportunity to work in some of the classrooms to start to get a real feel for what our days will be like in September! We asked lots of questions and are looking forward to visiting again soon.
Also on Monday, we welcomed a visitor from Bushey Library who told us all about their Summer Reading Challenge. We were each given leaflets to take home and can’t wait for the Summer to start reading.
We have been learning about water this week. We began by watching a video about how many people in the world, including many places in Africa, don’t have access to clean water. We learnt about how people would walk for hours to find water and then thought of ways that we may be able to help solve this problem. We designed our own solutions, before making our very own water pumps! We used water bottles, plastic tubing and tape to create an ‘Archimedes screw’ and tested it in small groups to see if they would work. We then wrote instructions explaining how we made our water pumps.
In literacy, we wrote poems about water. We discussed the features of poetry before thinking of as many words and phrases as we could to describe water. We then used these to write our own poems about the movement and uses of water.
Our maths learning this week has focused on time. We began by reminding ourselves of o clock, half past and quarter to and past times before thinking about how we could tell the time to the nearest five minutes. We enjoyed playing time games on the computers and explaining our answers to our friends before working together to solve time problems.
Finally, we have been looking at the work of Henri Rousseau. We discussed our opinions on his painting ‘Surprise, Tiger in a Tropical Storm’ and learnt about his life. We made our own fact files and then drew landscape pictures in the style of Henri Rousseau.
Well done O2- what a busy week!
