This week we have started our new Science topic of Animals. We have linked this in to our termly topic of Australia and began by learning some new facts about Australian animals. We learnt about the saltwater crocodile, koalas, kangaroos, echidnas and Tasmanian devils. We then went on to look at groups of animals (mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish) and how to classify each animal to decide which group it fits in to.
We read a book called ‘Edward the Emu’ in English and wrote about which animals we would like to be at the zoo and why.
In Maths we used the Cuisenaire rods to help us work out missing number problems and the relationship between addition and subtraction.
This week we also had a very relaxing session of Pilates with Mrs Charles, we have done a lot of singing about pancakes, Spring and new beginnings and we did some Art work ready to make our hall look Spring like ready for Wednesdays Spring assemblies. (We hope to see lots of you there!).
Next week’s learning…
Another Science filled week, looking at habitats this time. We are hoping to go on a local area walk to look for some habitats too (weather dependent!).
A few Arts and Crafts activities (but we can’t spoil the surprise and tell you anything else just yet!)
Maths focus – the language of problem solving
