We have continued our topic of transport this week. We have now begun to focus on trains. In literacy we read the story ‘Oi, Get Off Our Train’. We discussed the characters in the story, and the reasons why they wanted to get on the train. Each child thought about animals that might want to travel on the train. We then wrote a sentence about why that animal would like to get on.
In maths we have begun to learn about time. We learned that time can be measured in seconds, minutes and hours. We timed ourselves to see how many things we could do in 30 seconds or 1 minute, and recorded our results. We also looked at the routines of the day. Miss Tarrant muddled up our visual timetable, and we had to help her sort it out.
In phonics we have continued to revise Set 2 sounds. We are now quite confident with reading and writing these sounds, so next week we will begin to learn sounds from Set 3.
This week we also celebrated Science Week. We were given the challenge of making a flower, using only A4 paper and scissors. We decided to make daffodils, as lots of children had noticed them lately. We found this a little tricky, but in the end everyone had made a flower. On Friday, some children chose to carry on making flowers using paper, however they did ask to use glue this time!
Next Monday morning we will be having our ‘At Home’ session. Parents are invited to stay after dropping their child to school. We will be teaching a phonics lesson, which will last about 20/30 minutes in total.
