O2 have had a wonderful first week back at school!
We began the week by discussing the exciting adventures we had been on in our Summer holidays and made Miss Horton very jealous with all the fun activities we had taken part in! We spent the afternoon looking at our new topic: The Olympics. We tried to guess our topic by playing a variety of mini- sports that take place during the Olympics, such as blow- football, equestrian jumping and sailing. We thoroughly enjoyed working as a team and asking questions about the different sports as we completed them. Over the rest of the week we found out lots more; we learnt about the Olympic rings and the different continents of the world.
In maths this week we have been recalling our number facts to twenty; finding pairs of numbers that add to equal 20. We then used this knowledge to find the corresponding subtraction facts and solve problems.
Our literacy this week has focused on the story 'Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters'. Before we read the story, we used the pictures to predict what might happen at various points. We enjoyed role- playing the different parts of the story in groups and then described the differences between the characters.
We finished the week by designing and making our own Olympic torches and we can't wait to use them next week in the next part of our topic!
