In English this week we have been looking at the story of Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs. We started by reading the story and we then spoke about what happens in the beginning, middle and end of the story. Then we went on to act the story out in groups to help us remember the story. After we created a story board of pictures to remind ourselves of the key moments, alongside that we labelled our pictures with key words and adjectives we might use for when we rewrote the story ourselves. Finally we rewrote the story ourselves from beginning, middle and end! The Meerkats did a fabulous job of retelling the story and were able to add in some amazing elements to their writing such as adjectives, question marks and exclamation marks. I am one very proud teacher J.
In Maths this week we started by recapping our learning from last half term to do with multiplication (repeated addition) and arrays. We then went on to look at the language of ‘twice as many’ and what that means. The Meerkats have played a number of games this week to secure their knowledge of how to find twice the amount of their original number. We then went on to discuss that finding twice the amount of a number is the same as having 2 groups with the same amount in (multiplying by 2).
During this week we have also done lots and lots of revision of our phonics to really secure our knowledge of all our sounds and how to use our sound buttons when necessary.
