I hope you all had a wonderful Easter and enjoyed relaxing and eating lots of chocolate, I know that I did.
This week in Meerkats class we started off our week by discussing and writing about all the lovely things that we got up to in the school holidays. All the children had lots to share with me and one another and it was great to hear!!
In Maths, this week we started by looking at finding the difference between two number. We thought about how we can use subtraction sums to help us find the difference. Then we introduced statistics, we started by looking at pictograms and looked at how we can tell which group has the most, least and how we can find the difference between two groups. To finish the week off we carried out an investigation with odd and even numbers. We looked at what would happen when we find the difference between odd and even numbers.
During Science this week we have been learning about our 5 senses. We carried out an experiment where we could only use our senses and we had to predict what it was that we could hear, smell and taste. The Meerkats enjoyed this investigation A LOT!!
We started our new topic this week by learning about Captain James Cook. We learnt about his life and what he did to make himself famous and wrote facts about it. We then thought about what it would be like to travel on his ship from England to Australia so that we could write a diary entry from Captain James Cooks point of view. We used our 5 senses to write our diary entry to help describe what it would be like on the ship and to describe what it would be like when we first arrived on the deserted island of Australia.
