Bushey and Oxhey Infant School

A new adventure in learning begins . . . . .

Proud to be part of the Bushey Primary Education Federation - Executive Head Mrs C. Holliman

Week 9 7.11.16

This week we have been very busy with our topic "People who help us". We have had 2 visitors. Our first visitor was James's Nan from Class OR. She is an Ambulance driver. We were able to go inside the ambulance and then trying on her fluorescent jacket and hat. Some children had their arms bandaged and legs strapped.  In class we looked at non-fiction books about hospitals and ambulances and wrote sentences. We also selected tools and techniques to assemble split pin doctor characters.

Our second visitor was Leo's new puppy called Pilot. The children were able to ask lots of questions about looking after dogs, being safe around dogs and finding out what happens at the vets.

In Maths this week we have been revising 2D shapes and looking at mathematical terms to describe shapes. We have been doing practical activities counting two groups of objects, seeing how many there are altogether and beginning to use the vocabulary involved in adding.

In Literacy this week we have been learning our new phonic sounds "e", "l" and "h". Children have been pegging out washing with phonic sounds to make tricky words. BR Class has shown a real interest in using their imagination to write stories. We are now building a great bank of class stories, with many children bringing in stories they have written during Home Learning. The children are sharing their stories with the class during the day and answering questions about them.

A few children have developed the small world area to include a beach scene. We will be including our "mini-me" characters within the beach scene next week. We went for a walk inside the school grounds and collected a variety of leaves to make our hedgehog collages.

Our Stars of the Day this week have been George N for his enthusiasm in phonics. Seren for her excellent listening and interest during the Ambulance talk and Zac for his super use of language and fantastic ideas.
