This week has seen us take on new topics and learning in O1.
In literacy we have been looking at documentaries and what they are. The children worked with a partner to describe and comment on a video of their own and came up with some excellent scripts, full of detail. This was followed up by a research session where a selection of books and ipads were used to find out more facts and figures for their work. There is also a big well done to the children who remembered to do their homework and find out 5 facts all by themselves.
In maths the children began, for the first time, looking at multiplication and division. It is very tricky for the children but they were shown a range of techniques to help them solve the problems and use real life situation to put it into context. They worked well in groups and with partners and it is something that will continue throughout the year.
For topic we were looking at Grace Darling and her heroics, when she saved so many lives against tough odds. The children were fascinated and enjoyed drawing and writing about what she did. We also looked at how sports women have inspired others throughout time. This led to a big discussion with many reasons given and it helped reinforce how one person can truly make a difference to others and the world around them.
In science we continued our work on materials and the children enjoyed working in teams to find the best material that match the word that they chose.
