This week in Hedgehog class we learned all about firefighters. We began the week by finding out as much as we could. We then prepared questions we wanted to ask the firefighters when we finally met them. We drew pictures of fire engines, and then made the fire engines using junk modelling materials. We looked in detail at all of the parts of the fire engine, to ensure we included them in our models. In maths we looked at length, and had a competition to see who could make the longest hose, using objects from around the classroom.
We had a fantastic trip on Friday, visiting Watford Fire Station! We had a look at the fire engine, and all of the equipment it contains. The firefighters took out the ladders so that we could see how high they can go. We went on a tour of the fire station, and had the chance to spray water using the hoses. We really had a great day, and we would like to thank Watford Fire Station for an excellent morning. We would also like to thank all of the parents who helped on our trip this morning. It was great to have so many adults with us on our first trip out of school.
We have begun to prepare for our Christmas Nativity this week. We are beginning to learn some of the songs. In the next week we will be sending home lines for some children to learn. We will also send home a letter home looking for costumes.
The children are really making progress with their phonics. This week we learned the sounds o, c and k. We are particularly working on putting these sounds together to make words. The children have enjoyed playing an online phonics game, where they must match a word to a picture. Here is the link if you would like to play it at home: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/PictureMatch.html
What a very exciting week of learning we have had Hedgehog Class!
