This week we celebrated Book Week at our school. We chose to focus on the story ‘Peace at Last’ by Jill Murphy. We retold the story by putting pictures from the story in the correct order. Then we wrote sentences to match to the pictures. The children are becoming more independent in their writing and remembering to use their sounds and tricky words when writing.
In maths this week we have begun to learn about subtraction. This week we talked about subtraction using word problems and worked them out practically. We counted out some children and then took some away each time. Next week we will begin to use 10 frames to work out subtraction problems. We will also use the part whole model to record what we have done.
On Wednesday afternoon, Grace’s mummy kindly came in to read a story to us. She read the book The Bumblebear by Nadia Shireen. It is a story of a bear that pretends to be a bumblebee to steal all of the bee’s honey. After the story was finished we all made our own bumblebear headbands and wore them all afternoon. We would like to thank Grace’s mummy for coming in to share the story with us.
On World Book Day all of the children came in dressed as a character from a book. Some children also brought in their favourite books, which we read throughout the day. It was lovely to see so many children at our Book at Bedtime on Wednesday evening. We hope you enjoyed all of the performances.
We will be visiting Watford Fire Station on Thursday 21st March. We will need parents to come with us on this trip. If you are available on this date please speak to Miss Tarrant or Mrs. Dunne about coming with us on that morning.
Next week our learning will be focused around ‘The Gingerbread Man’. Have a lovely weekend Toucan Class.
