It has been a very busy start to this half term. We introduced our new topic, People Who Help Us, this week. We talked about the job that dentists do, and how to look after our teeth. Our role play area has now become a doctor’s surgery, and the children are spending a lot of time in there.
In phonics we learned three new sounds ‘u’, ’b’ and ‘f’, and the tricky words ‘he’ and ‘go’. In maths we have been working on matching numerals and quantities correctly.
On Wednesday we had a Diwali assembly, which Kian’s parents presented. We learned about the meaning of Diwali, and how it is celebrated. Kian and his parents made some traditional food, which we had a chance to taste during the morning. After assembly we had Diwali related activities in the classroom. Some children were quite interested in the decorated sticks that Kian had made for Diwali, so we decided to make some of our own.
On Thursday we had our Harvest assembly. OR class attended the assembly and joined in singing the songs that Ms. Keogh has been teaching them.
Three children in OR class received the Star of the Day award this week. Jackson was given Star of the Day because he worked really hard in our phonics session, blending CVC words. Sophie was Star of the Day this week for really trying hard with her reading, and James was Star of the Day for showing kindness to others. On Thursday afternoon Mrs. Cooper came around with the Golden Book. At the time, Joseph had been busy making his own book called’ A book with no pictures’, and so he was chosen to go into the Golden Book for his super writing.
