Bushey and Oxhey Infant School

A new adventure in learning begins . . . . .

Proud to be part of the Bushey Primary Education Federation - Executive Head Mrs C. Holliman

Week 8 - 31.10.16

We have had a very practical ‘hands on’ week in B2 this week!

In maths the children have been exploring measure. We have been investigating and recording using: cm/m, g/kg and ml/l. At the start of the week we headed onto the playground to explore…‘How could I investigate how much water a container can hold?’ The children worked in their busy finger groups. They estimated, filled containers and then measured accurately using measuring jugs to the nearest ml. We only managed to get two maths books soggy! Throughout the week in maths we have been analysing our results using <  > and =. We ended the week completing a number of problem solving questions that contained all three units of measure.

In literacy we have been building up to writing our non-fiction explanation text based on an online maths game, which we completed today. The children used laptops to play the game and made notes on a white board to how it works. We then used these notes to make a plan which we used today to help us write our explanation text. The children worked SO hard! Their text organisation instantly shouted ‘explanation text’! Some children even joined their writing. Well done B2.

We started our new topic on Monday - Let’s Celebrate. We mind mapped our experiences of celebrations and what we thought were the most important things to have at a celebration. “Fun”, “sweets and party food” and “decorations” were our top three! We discussed the Hindu celebration ‘Diwali’ with the children and completed: Rangoli patterns, designed mhendi and made masks for the story of Rama and Sita. On Thursday we went to a fantastic Diwali assembly and the children tasted some typical Indian party food.

It has been a very noisy week! But thank you for your continued hard work B2.  The home learning for this half term is now on the website.

Have a lovely weekend

Mrs Carter.
