We have had a very busy week in OR class this week. We began our week by performing our first ever class assembly. We are very proud of our performance, and we hope you enjoyed it too. Thank you to everyone who came to see us on Monday.
We have been celebrating Book Week, based on the theme of history, this week. In Reception we chose to read the non-fiction book ‘My History’. We discussed the meaning of history, and thought about our own histories. We made our own book based on our histories, adding special memories to our books. On Friday we attended Celebration Assembly, where we were able to share the work we had done.
We also celebrated World Book Day on Thursday. The children arrived at school with fantastic costumes. We attended a character parade, where we had the chance to show our costumes to the rest of the school.
In maths this week we have begun to look at addition again. This time we are really focusing on counting on to find the answer. Some children have also been recording addition calculations, and are using the vocabulary involved in addition e.g. plus, equals.
In phonics we have continued to revise Set 2 sounds, with a particular focus on ‘ar’, ‘or’ and ‘air’ sounds this week. We matched words to pictures, played 'Obb and Bob', and wrote some words containing these sounds. We are also continuing to revise all of the tricky words we have learned so far.
In PE sessions with Miss Tarrant we have been learning how to jump safely. We have jumped over ropes, from mat to mat, and also from a small height. The children really had to focus on bending their knees and landing on two feet.
Next week we will be moving on to our new topic of 'Transport'. The children have shown a big interest in making various types vehicles in the construction area, and with the wooden blocks outdoors. After discussion, we decided transport would be a good topic to work on up until Easter.
We are really looking forward to beginning our new topic next week!
