Maths this week has been looking at representing numbers to 10 and regrouping the same value differently. Meerkats class have been doing this using concrete objects, tens frames and counters. We linked this to our learning with number bonds to and within 10.
Our English learning has been based on 'Where is my Teddy?' by Jez Alborough. We have been looking at the characters emotions in the book and have built up a word bank of adjectives we could use to describe these feelings and emotions. We particularly liked to use cheerful and glum in our writing.
In Science we looked at Autumn and seasonal changes. On Monday afternoon we went for a walk to Oxhey Park to spot signs of Autumn. We spoke about changes in the weather and learnt some facts about what happens to the leaves. When we were walking around the park we used our senses to help us observe the changes in the park and when we got back to school we wrote about everything we saw and heard in the park. After that we made a poster about Autumn including crops that are harvested, what happens to some animals and which festivals are celebrated in Autumn.
We have also been doing lots of rehearsing for the Harvest Festival. We hope you enjoyed watching us sing on Thursday because we loved singing for all of you!!! On Friday afternoon we watched 'The Greatest Showman' and ate biscuits and popcorn to celebrate what a fantastic first half term we have all had together and to reward ourselves for all the hard work that has taken place in Meerkats class.
After half term...
Our new topic will be 'Festivals and Celebrations'. We will be starting off our topic looking at Bonfire Night, Diwali and Rememberance Sunday. We also have our trip to Rock Up on Wednesday so we start off the next half term as busy as we've ended this one!!
Meerkat class you must be exhuasted because I know I am from all the amazing things that have gone on this half term!! Have a fabulous break and get plenty of rest for more learning after the holidays!
