Bushey and Oxhey Infant School

Educating Today's Child for Tomorrow!

Proud to be part of Bushey Primary Education Federation Headteacher: Mrs M Cooper

Week 8: 20th October 2018

Our English learning this week was based on the story of 'Where's my Teddy?' by Jez Alborough. We looked at different emotions and feelings that occur in the story and built up a class vocabulary bank of synonyms for happy and sad to make our writing more interesting. Our favourites are 'down in the dumps', 'on cloud nine' and 'ecstatic'.

In Science we looked at the season of Autumn and seasonal changes. On Monday we went for a walk to Oxhey Park to spot signs of the seasons changing. We used our senses as we walked around and then we wrote about the things that we saw and heard in the park. We spoke about changes in the weather and learnt some facts about what happens to the leaves during this season. We then made a face poster about Autumn including crops that are harvested, what happens to some animals and which festivals are celebrated in Autumn.

Maths lessons were looking at representing a number in different ways by using different amounts to make the same total. We linked this to our learning of number bonds within 10. We used tens frames and counters to help us with this.

As well as all of this we had lots of rehearsal time for the Harvest Festival. We hope you enjoyed watching us sing as much as we enjoyed performing for you on Thursday! And then to end off our first half term together we had a class celebration. The children all decorated biscuits today and then we ate them this afternoon while watching a film. What will next half terms celebration be....

After half term...

Our new topic will be 'Festivals and Celebrations'. We will be starting off our topic looking at Bonfire Night, Diwali and Rememberance Sunday. We also have our trip to Rock Up on Wednesday so we start off the next half term as busy as we've ended this one!!
