We began our new topic this week, Transport. We are discussing whether to turn our new role play area into an airport, a train station or garage and their lots of ideas being talked about! We have talked about many different types of transport and have painted cars, lorries, trucks and fire engines.
We then read Mr. Gumpy's Motor Car. We discussed the characters in the story, and the reasons why each of them would not push the car. Then everyone drew a picture of one of the characters, and wrote the reason that animal gave for not pushing the car.
In maths we have begun to learn about doubling, using a new song to help us remember, involving lots of animals climbing aboard a train! We have used objects to help us with doubling numbers. We have also been writing the calculations to represent our doubling. We are beginning to learn about the relationship between doubling and halving.
In phonics we have continued to review Set 2 sounds, in particular 'ir', 'ou' and 'oy'. We have been working on reading and writing words containing these digraphs.
In PE we have continued to learn about jumping and landing appropriately. We were jumping from the apparatus, and over ropes. We looked at the difference between jumping for height, and jumping for distance.
On Thursday Mrs Sherwood arranged an impromptu 'Troll disco!' One of the girls started humming the tune and Mrs Sherwood then played the music. It wasn't long before many of the children were inviting others to join them on the dancefloor!
Next week we will begin to focus on trains. If you have anything you could provide us related to this topic, we would be grateful to receive it.
