We've had a very eventful week leading to Half Term!
In Literacy this week, we continued to read and use Traction Man by Mini Grey. Through role play we acted out the main events, re-creating Traction Man's adventures using props and voices to bring our performances to life. We then created our own setting and adventures for Traction Man using a range of materials and we used these as inspiration to plan our own stories. We ended the week by telling and writing our own adventures for Traction Man, including missions to space and the beach to name a few. Please keep an eye out for these in our classroom!
During Maths, we have been learning about number bonds, adding two numbers to create a given answer e.g. 3 + 7 = 10, 2 + 8 - 10. We were super detectives spotting clear patterns to help us solve bonds with other numbers. We then used our learning and knowledge to find the missing number within a number sentence. We used objects, number lines and squares to solve the problem.
On Thursday, we were very lucky to be invited to O2's assembly, which we thoroughly enjoyed. All the children were loud and clear, sharing a range of their learning with us. We loved their Harvest song and the news reports, well done O2!
In Topic and Science this week, we continued to learn about Holidays and the weather and seasons. We prepared our plane tickets for the flight, wrote holiday lists and packed our suitcases. On Friday, we went all the way to AUSTRALIA! When we arrived it was the evening, so we had to make sure we didn't wake any sleeping children or animals! Its Spring time in Australia at the moment, so it was still a little chilly during playtime. We enjoyed learning facts about Australia, including landmarks, animals, money and food. We even went to Deano's Australian Restaurant, we spent our Australian dollars to buy Fairy Bread and Tim Tams! We were back just in time for lunch and our afternoon learning.
Well done B1 for a super half term and a great start to Year One! Mrs Harris and I hope you have a lovely half term and we can't wait to see you back at school on Monday 31st October
