What a busy and productive last week of the half term!
O2 began the week with a new literacy topic looking at explanation texts. We started by comparing different explanation texts to different types of writing, such as reports, stories and instructions. We then read an explanation of the life cycle of a frog before creating our own version using a flowchart. Also in literacy this week, we began to look at using subordinate and coordinate clauses as a way of extending our sentences, and identified the words to look out for in our own writing.
Our maths learning this week focused on using the ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’ symbols (> and <) to order numbers. We enjoyed thinking of each as crocodiles always trying to eat the biggest number! Over the next few lessons we ordered different two and three digit numbers, found missing numbers and even solved longer sentences using multiple symbols in the same question. We then finished the week by beginning to look at measuring; using centimetres and metres to measure different lengths.
This week in phonics, we enjoyed looking at words ending in ‘y’ (dry, fly, happy). After identifying the different sounds it made, we then looked at what happened to these words when we changed the ending. We were excited to spot the patterns, and were able to change the endings to create new words in a variety of sentences.
On Wednesday, O2 had a very exciting inter-class PE competition. Mr Lazarra came and we held a benchball competition, where four teams of seven competed against each other in a tournament. After a nail-biting final match, the Blue Team won and were all awarded an achievement point each. Well done!
O2 ended the week by performing their class assembly. We said our lines loudly, remembered all our different parts and thoroughly enjoyed sharing our learning with our families. Miss Horton was very proud!
Well done O2 on a fabulous last week! Enjoy your holidays!
