Bushey and Oxhey Infant School

Educating Today's Child for Tomorrow!

Proud to be part of Bushey Primary Education Federation Headteacher: Mrs M Cooper

Week 7: 11th June 2018

We have decided to begin this half term by learning about mini-beasts, as the children showed a real interest in them before the break.

During the week, we received a special delivery of caterpillars! We read the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and talked about what the caterpillar had eaten. We drew a picture of foods he had eaten and wrote a sentence about it.

We also looked at non-fiction books about caterpillars, and learned some facts about them. Some children have begun to write diaries to track the growth of the caterpillars.

We learned about Mondrian art this week, looking at a picture made of squares and triangles, using certain colours. We then made our own pictures based on this art, using black card and paints.

We introduced an ice-cream stall in our role play area. The children have been busy thinking of the flavours of ice-cream they would like, and making ice-creams to sell to their friends.

In maths we have been looking at addition, and in particular counting on. We put a number into our heads and then counted on to add the second number. We counted spots on ladybirds and played snakes and ladders to practise this skill.

We had a pilates session with Mrs. Charles this week. We learned that pilates helps to build up our core muscles. We really enjoyed learning various new movements in this lesson, some which we found quite tricky!

Well done on a great week of learning Hedgehog Class.
