This week we continued with our topic of planting and growth. We decided to plant some broad beans at the beginning to the week. To really understand what happens to seeds as they grow, we decided to plant them in a clear plastic cup, just adding some water. We are checking on them each day to see if we notice any changes in them. Some roots have already begun to grow!
We read a book called Jasper’s Beanstalk this week in which Jasper plants a bean and waits for it to grow. We cut out pictures from the story, sequenced them and then wrote sentences about them. We looked at various parts of flowers and plants and labelled pictures of them. We also painted pictures of flowers.
This week we changed our role play area. The children had suggested that we turn it into an airport and it has been quite a popular area of the classroom this week. The children have shared their ideas on how to make it even better and made props to support their role play. We have been filling in passports and deciding on destinations all week.
In maths this week we were ordering objects by height and length. We had to order 3 objects according to height/length and identified the shortest, tallest, longest each time. We looked at pictures of flowers and beanstalks and worked out how to order them.
The children have suggested that next week we base our learning around the story Jack and the Beanstalk. Hopefully we will begin to see more changes in our seeds next week.
Have a lovely weekend Toucan Class.
