Bushey and Oxhey Infant School

Educating Today's Child for Tomorrow!

Proud to be part of Bushey Primary Education Federation Headteacher: Mrs M Cooper

Week 6: 8th October 2018

Throughout our maths learning this week we have been looking at counting and sequencing consecutive and non consecutive numbers. We have been looking at using our reasoning skills to explain how we know that number is in the correct position in our sequence. The children have been exploring using vocabulary such as more, less, greater and fewer. It is really important that Meerkats class understand the value of each number so that they can reason their answers and not just say 'because I know it'. All of these skills will help them with their future learning in Maths.

In phonics we have revisited the sound 'ir' this week and spent the rest of our phonics lessons recapping all our previous sounds we have looked at.  We have been practising using these sounds in our spellings. We are also carrying with our 'hold a sentence' activity, this is where we decide a sentence together, repeat it out loud in a variety of voices, count the words, clap it out and then write it down. Meanwhile we have to remember to include capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, tricky words, sounds to spell and tricky words.

English lessons have been based around the story of 'Voices in the Park' by Anthony Browne.  The story is told from four different perspectives and explores characters feelings. We have written lists and sentences about what you see and do at the park. Then later on in the week we have written about how the characters are feeling in the book and why they might feel this way using 'and' or 'because' to extend our writing and make it even more AMAZING!!! The Meerkats explored different vocabulary they could use in their sentences rather than just writing sad or happy.

We will be continuing to use 'Voices in the Park' as our focus text for English. Our handwriting focus will be recapping what we have learnt so far and beginning to look at joining 'ch' if appropriate. In Phonics we will look at 'oy' and 'ou'. Then in maths we will continue to look at comparing numbers, looking at 1 more and 1 less.

Well done Meerkats you have done an enormous amount of learning again this week, you should be very proud of yourselves because Mrs Liquori and I are.

Have a lovely weekend and get plenty of rest!!
