This week in Reception Class we read the story Oliver’s Vegetables. In this story, Oliver visits his grandfather’s vegetable patch, and tastes lots of different vegetables. We talked about growing vegetables and our favourite vegetables to eat. Children drew pictures of these and labelled them with some support.
In maths we continued to learn about weight and length using vegetables. We used balancing scales to work out which was the heaviest/lightest vegetable. We used carrots and runner beans to measure length.
We have also begun to prepare our song for the Harvest Assembly which will take on October 25th. All parents are welcome to attend. Please see the newsletter for further details.
In phonics this week we learned the sounds ‘s’ and ‘d’. These are now attached to your child’s sound tag. Now that we have more sounds, we can begin to make simple words to read eg mad, sad, sam. We could practise sounding out these words and blending the sounds together to read the words.
Next week we will be going on a trip to Oxhey Park, to look at the seasonal changes. We would like as many parents as possible to come along with us. Please speak to Miss Tarrant or Mrs. Dunne if you are available to come with us on Tuesday morning.
At the moment we would like to add to our home corner. If you and your child happen to do some cooking or baking this weekend, could you please take a picture of them doing this and send it in to us. This is a great opportunity for lots of maths learning, including using money to buy ingredients, counting, weighing. We would like to have photos of lots of children cooking or baking to put up in our home corner. You can send photos to email@example.com .
Well done on a great week of learning Toucan Class!
