Bushey and Oxhey Infant School

A new adventure in learning begins . . . . .

Proud to be part of the Bushey Primary Education Federation - Executive Head Mrs C. Holliman

Week 6 6.2.17

O2 have had an enjoyable final week of the half term.

On Monday, we started the day by recapping on our trip to Frogmore Paper Mill. We were shown photographs of our trip and discussed the processes used to make paper. We then wrote instructions telling someone how to make their own paper and used commands, numbers and time openers to order our ideas. We also continued to look at the story of ‘Beegu’. We created a setting for our own stories about Beegu using paint and marbling techniques. We painted white stars onto a black background, before adding colourful planets made by cutting out the paper that we had marbled.

On Tuesday, we had a special treat as Miss Keough came to teach us! We wrote thank you cards to the Paper Mill for all their help during our trip last week. We talked about the features of a letter and wrote about our favourite part of the day. We had a variety of favourite moments, from looking through the microscopes to seeing the crumble being delivered into the mill.

On Wednesday morning, we all walked to Bushey Manor School to take part in our annual Sign2Sing event. We had been practising the song lots over the past few weeks and all our hard work and practise paid off; we sang beautifully and remembered all of the signs! We enjoyed going to Bushey Manor and for many of us it was a chance to say hello to our friends and siblings. When we got back to school, we practised our reading comprehension skills and thought about how to answer questions carefully and accurately before assembling our art work in the afternoon.

On Thursday, we began the day with an assembly based on ‘Safer Internet Day’. We found out ways to stay safe and what to do if we were worried about something we had seen on the internet. We also enjoyed a morning of maths activities focusing on division and multiplication. We began by solving division problems related to paper making and thinking about how we could share different amounts of paper between groups of children. We then made our own multiplication ‘fortune tellers’ to help us play a variety of games practising our times tables. Later, we wrote our stories based on ‘Beegu’. We started by planning our story by drawing pictures to show the beginning, middle and end, and then wrote paragraphs about each picture to form our finished story.

Friday was a very exciting day! After the register, Year Two had their second ‘At Home’ session. We showed our families how we used ‘Kung Fu Punctuation’ to remember where our punctuation goes in each sentence and then worked with our visitors to practise using the correct punctuation in a short paragraph. We really enjoyed sharing our learning and our families were impressed with our knowledge.

We finished the week with our class celebration; a teddy bears picnic. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing crisps and biscuits with our bears before settling down to a film of our choice. What a very well deserved end to the week!
